Three Floors of Vintage at Friends of Charis Charity Shop, Magherafelt

Last modified date

Magherafelt in County Derry has a number of lovely charity shops, run by some really warm and welcoming people. Today we visited Friends of Charis, and could have happily spent all day there.

Space to Move, and Stock to Browse

Friends of Charis has to be one of the biggest charity shops that we have seen. It covers three floors, and is well stocked with everything from clothes and shoes, to books, toys, and furniture. It is bright and spacious, even when very busy – and they get bonus points for not turning the volume up too high on their in-store music, giving it a nice, calming atmosphere.

The first floor has clothing, toys, and some glassware and ornaments. There was a large women’s section, and although we have found that many charity shops only have a very small men’s section, there was plenty for men at Friends of Charis too. The kids section was smaller but still stocked with plenty of different sizes. Prices ranged from a pound or two for the kids clothes to £20 or £30 for the high-end or brand new with tags adults clothes.

Is there Profit here for the Reseller?

We did have a good rummage but as resellers, there was not a lot of profit to be made. The prices were fair if we had been shopping for ourselves – but that can be done another day.

Fell in love with this adorable little tiny suit in perfect condition for £30. We didn’t buy it. If we had a suit-worthy occasion coming up, and a little person this size, it would have been coming home with us. It doesn’t even look worn!

Vintage Furniture Heaven

On to the second and third floors – my new happy place!

We don’t generally tend to resell furniture, but we do love looking at it.

Very often, charity shops that sell furniture are limited by their floor space. Sometimes they might rotate their stock and display one sofa at a time, or one dining set. That is not the case here. The whole second floor is filled with living room and dining room furniture, while the third floor has bedroom pieces and some nursery items. We ooh-ed and ahh-ed our way through lamps, chairs, telephone tables… curtains, bedding… sofas, wardrobes, drawers. All beautiful.

And vintage.

Proper actual vintage.

Again, as resellers we didn’t find profit here – we didn’t look for profit, to be honest. If we buy furniture from here, it will be to take home and love forever.

And, that is just what we did.

Does anyone need a mirror? They have millions.

We picked up an enormous mirror that looks like it was made for our wall for just £30. And I love it.

Conclusion

We are resellers. We resell what we find to make money and support our family. People out there in eBayland are searching for something, and we find it for them. They are happy, we are happy, and the charity shop is happy because we freed up some space for them while putting money in their till. But sometimes, we find a shop that has things we don’t want to sell. We find things that we love, and want to keep. That’s this shop, for us.

Friends of Charis in Magherafelt is the place to go if you want to furnish your home with loveliness.
